মধ্যযুগীয় রাজার ছিলেন খুবই প্রতাপশালী এবং ক্ষমতার অধিকারী। তাদের এই শক্তির মূল উৎস ছিল শক্তিশালী ও সুরক্ষিত প্রাসাদ দূর্গ। দুর্ভেদ্য এই সব প্রাসাদ দূর্গে বসেই তারা তাদের সুবিশাল সম্রাজ্য শাসন করতেন। একেবারে প্রথম দিকে প্রাসাদ দূর্গ তৈরি করা হত কাঠ দিয়ে। আমাদের উপমহাদেশীয় ইতিহাসে তিতুমীরের বাঁশেরকেল্লা বীরত্বের এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাক্ষ্য বহন করছে। তিতুমীরের বাঁশেরকেল্লাটি হয় তো সুরক্ষিতর দিক দিয়ে কিছুই না কিন্তু ইংরেজদের অত্যাচার আর বৈসম্যের বিরুদ্ধে মানুষের মনে বিদ্রোহের যে দুর্গ গড়েছিল তা যে কোন পাথরের দুর্গের চেয়েও শক্তিশালীকরেছিল, এই দেখ কোথা থেকে কোথায় চলে গেছি।
